Anyone go thru a failed adoption?

My husband and I started looking into adoption in December. We were matched with a birth mother in April. We put so much time, love and money into the adoption, weekly Skype calls with birth mom, everything went great. We flew out when she was induced and spent time with the baby. Within 24 hrs birth mom changed her mind. She did not have a social worker or counselor there with her as we expected. We did not have anyone from the state adoption agency meet us or do any more than answer when we tried to contact them. We immediately headed home and the agency we've been working with all along is hoping we'll just leave it alone it seems. We've spent so much money, we created a bond with this baby and it was just whatever now ! We lost our stillborn daughter June 2016 and it's felt like we lost a child all over again! Everyone says failures are very uncommon but they're really not! And if it fails oh well! There goes the rest of your money and sanity! Anyone looking into adoption be extremely cautious! Failures do happen and there's nothing you can do after.
