She gave her 6 month old WHAT?

A person I am friends with on Facebook posted a 6 month "photoshoot" she did of her daughter and in them, she gave her daughter a cupcake and let her eat it as a "cake smash" session. I instantly thought "OH NO" and got concerned but everyone is commenting saying "this is so cute, I'm going to do this with mine" and things like that. Now I'm confused and am genuinely curious for my own knowledge, I thought giving a child under the age of 1 any sweets was bad for their health. Is it bad for them or totally fine?
