She gave her 6 month old WHAT?

A person I am friends with on Facebook posted a 6 month "photoshoot" she did of her daughter and in them, she gave her daughter a cupcake and let her eat it as a "cake smash" session. I instantly thought "OH NO" and got concerned but everyone is commenting saying "this is so cute, I'm going to do this with mine" and things like that. Now I'm confused and am genuinely curious for my own knowledge, I thought giving a child under the age of 1 any sweets was bad for their health. Is it bad for them or totally fine?

technically, they can have it but handing her that was a MAJOR choking hazard. she took a big risk. I mean, you're giving a tiny immune system a ton of sugar with no nutritional value so it's not the best thing in the world and I wouldn't be shocked if the baby puked it up but it's not dangerous or risky (in terms of contents) like giving dairy or honey too soon. but it was Incredibly stupid and she's lucky her kid didn't choke.

I'm positive that the baby didn't finish the entire cupcake. It was probably just for the picture. I give my daughter a little taste of sweets every once in awhile because I like seeing her face light up over it. That baby is fine. 💕😊

It's not healthy, but it was a special occasion. I'm big on not giving baby's certain foods before they're ready, but her baby will be fine. It's just a cupcake. Atleast it's not something she can choke on. (I may be concerned if it contains eggs though, as you need to be 1 year to consume that)

It totally unhealthy, but as long as she's watching for her to make sure she isn't choking it isn't going to do permanent harm. It could mess with her blood sugar though. Idk, some parents take risks others wouldn't. She could have opted for a healthily made version with the look of a regular cupcake- it probably would have been better.
