first off, Liam is 5 months old and was sleeping from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. where he would wake up briefly to eat and then go back to sleep for two or three more hours, from 6 weeks old. However now that he is older he has since dropped that fourth nap and goes to bed around 7:30 pm, after his bath and bottle. I do a dreamfeed around 10-10:30pm.

well, the problem is... over the last 3-4 weeks he hasn't been eating his first two bottles of the day. the first one he flat out refuses. the second one hr may take 1-2 oz.

because if he eats through the night he isn't hungry enough in the morning to eat. He started waking for an additional night feeding a few weeks ago.he was down to one, or none on some nights. if he eats anywhere after 3am all bets are off for his 7 a.m. wake up feeding. Then his next feeding (usually) at 11 a.m. he's still not that hungry. He basically will go 8 hours from the middle of the night feeding until he takes a good day feeding. (which sounds like he should be doing at night, not in the day time.)

If he was eating during the day I wouldn't worry about the night time feedings. I try to resettle him with his binky and it works sometimes and sometimes he needs to eat. The doctor suggested we try giving a little bit of water to hold him off( whenever he would wake at 5 a.m. to eat, just 2 hours before wake up time) I did that and it seemed to affect him the same way! He got filled up on empty calories with water.

so now it seems we are backwards.like how a newborn baby sleeps.

Consuming over half of his daily calories in the night from 10 p.m. until 7 a.m. I've thought about dropping the dream feed since hes waking anyhow, and way before 7am.

well, I tried it last night and he woke at 12 midnight to eat. then 3am to eat. then up at 7am, and wouldn't eat at all. so maybe the dream feed helps some I guess. since his last feed is 7pm. before bed.

I don't know how to get him to eat the majority of his daily calories in the daytime. we are really setting up bad habits if this continues much longer.

I can't force him to eat. He has never been one of those babies that you can feed a little bit earlier, he has never taken 1 ounce more than what he wanted or needed and he has never taken one ounce less than what he has wanted or needed.

I don't mind waking up at night time because if he is hungry he should be eating. But we are creating or continuing bad habits by him getting most of his nutritional needs met in the nighttime versus the daytime.

we have a doctor's appointment for him on Monday which I will address this issue to see what the doctor says but more than likely he will just say to try and wean the night time feeding. And well, I don't really know how to do that if he is hungry. I feel like we are on a vicious cycle of eating at night and not in the day time.

has anybody else battled this? Or went through it? Solved it? LOL. What would you suggest? Just looking for opinions and advice because I am at my Wit's End!! it don't feel like its going to work itself out, as it's just getting worse.
