It doesnt necessarily have to be an engagement ring because we are still young 19 and 20 but i would really like a symbol of his love...

I personally don't think you should. I would think a symbol of his love be would be his devotion and faithfulness to you. Rings just hint at more and you should never want to make someone feel pressured into that.

When my boyfriend and I were younger like 17 and 20, I wanted a promise ring and I just told him I kinda wanted one. He eventually got me one for one of our anniversaries but now looking back on it, it was kinda silly. Why make him spend the money when I knew how much he loved me regardless of if I had a ring to show it. I still wear it to this day bc he got it for me, but now that we're older and looking back- it's really not what he gets you that means he loves you. It's how he acts and treats you and one day when he proposes it'll be even more special!

Get crafty together and make bracelets or something. He doesn't have to wear the one you make, but you get to wear something he created with you in mind. I don't suggest asking him to spend money to prove he loves you, that's what asking for a ring sounds like to me.
