Newborn + Cold Sore?

I have a 3 week old and I can feel myself getting a cold sore, I have started cream application but I'm reallly stressed about it now as I know it can really hurt baby... I know to wash my hands real well but I'm scared that I'm going to wake up for middle of the night feed and forget to do it or something while half asleep I'm soo stressed now and really scared like I don't want to hurt her

Maybe talk to your doc about being put on a herpes suppressant. It'll certainly help put your mind at ease and most are perfectly safe when you're breastfeeding.

l-lysine. You can take it pregnant so I think taking it now should be fine. Also B-12. Usually a break out can be prevented by those two even when you feel it coming on. Call your dr. office and ask about them.

If you had outbreaks during your pregnancy you passed on antibodies to your baby, I read somewhere that it gives them extra protection for the first 6 months. Have some hand sanitizer on your nightstand, wash your hands before you pick up your baby and especially before changing her diaper. If you do forget to wash your hands and start nursing, don't use your fingers to unlatch the baby. Also Rubbing Alcohol works wonders to reduce the outbreak.

I get cold sores as well and I am on a cold sore depressant. Talk to your doctor about a daily regiment. I haven't had one in nearly 3 years.

Are you only breastfeeding? If not maybe bottle feed only & get some of those little bandaids you can get to cover the sore until it's gone :) I get cold sores so this worries me as well
