Am I overreacting?

Question

So I recently told my mom about my relationship with my boyfriend. He's 31 and I'm 20. Her first and only reaction was asking if I was on birth control, and then lecturing me to get on it. Going on and on about how she didn't want me to end up pregnant (she had me when she was 20), and how plan B hurts and how terrible that is. But it seemed like she didn't trust me to make smart decisions??? It kind of hurt. I was a Biochemistry major, I am very science oriented and I know the ins and outs of so many more things than she does regarding sex. It hurt for her to assume that I didn't know anything. Am I over reacting?

Well, sounds like you're not on bc, so you're not really demonstrating that you don't need that lecture 🤔 Plus, she's your mom - - I'm 33, married with a baby, & my mom still reminds me of obvious stuff because she cares. It's sweet.

When my boyfriend and I moved in together I went back to visit my family one night and the first thing my mom asked when I walked in was "are you guys using condoms? Do you need help picking out birth control?" It was the first time she asked me & it took me completely off guard!

I had my first when I was 18 and I hope and dream my daughter doesn't have a baby until she's finished college and is stable. I learned the hard way, although I don't regret her at all. Having a baby when you're ready is a lot easier than having one when you're not financially stable. I believe your mom is in the right and I wish I had someone have this talk with me back then.

You're mom loves you and she only wants the best for you. No matter your educational background, accidents happen. 
You're lucky, some parents never talk to their children about birth control (at any age). At least you know she cares. 
Also, she's probably conferences because of the age difference between you and you SO. He's 31, and possibly in a different life stage for you. He may be thinking about starting a family right now, while you're still finishing school. Don't get me wrong, I'm not judging about the age difference - my husband is 11 yrs older than me, I'm 38, he's 49.  :)

well it sounds like she's right for asking bc she's telling you to get on it which means u aren't on any bc at the moment, which isn't so smart. also just bc ur a bio major doesn't mean much, not every class is about sex ed. and if ur a bio major that means you didn't get the degree yet so ur still in school and focusing on school. ur mom is definitely right to be concerned bc she wants what's best for u.

Over reacting. If you're not currently on BC and she's asking you to get on it, and you're upset because you think she doesn't think you're "smart" enough to make that decision on your own.... Get on it if you want or don't. You're a grown woman. Just be happy she didn't freak about the age difference. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I'm 20, living with my long term boyfriend, and 24 weeks pregnant. My mom still lectures me about anything and everything she can because she's my mom. She caught me eating an apple from her house that I didn't wash ( I buy farm to table so I'm not used to having to wash them anymore) and she lectured me for 30 minutes about it. Honestly, just let her mom you lol
