When do you plan on transitioning to a toddler bag?

I have one of those bulky diaper bags. My mom suggested using a toddler bookbag for him when he turns 1. There's no point in me getting a purse diaper bag when I'm not the only one watching him. I'll have men watching him too.

we had both from day 1 and we have used the bookbag one pretty much 95% of the time it's so much easier to carry around we only use the other when he forgets and leaves it in his car when going to work

I'm thinking of getting my daughter her own backpack once she is sturdy enough to walk and stuff, with some toys and non perishable snacks in it.
We cloth diaper which results in the need for inserts, cream, covers and a wet bag and I can't load her all up with that. But I think it's a great way to teach responsibility! I'm just going to wait till she ques me in that she's ready for that!

our backpack is perfect. has a pocket for EVERYTHING.  its not bulky. and my husband loves wearing it. and it holds TONS of stuff. two big inside compartments, lots of pockets inside. lots of them outside. two deeeeep pockets outside for bottles. then another two big pockets (all zipper). two small pockets.  i can pack at least 15 outfits, clean rags,  her pacies, 10 bottles. 30 diapers, socks,  blankie, medicine, my glasses, wallet, keys. u name it, it fits. AND, u find everything easy, at ur fingertips every time. its Fisher price.

I used a changing bag for the first few weeks and found it a pain. As soon as I got my confidence after a few weeks (realised I didn't need to pack for every emergency) I started using a canvas shopper for his essentials- food, nappies and spare set of clothes. It took a while to realise that I didn't need 4 sets of emergency clothes, a spare dummy, 4 Muslins and Calpol for example. Now I just chuck a spare onesie and bib in, and if he gets them dirty I can just nip into a shop and grab a clean onesie. Same with Calpol, if he gets ill whilst we're out I can just nip in and buy some. Obviously if were going up a mountain with the dog and there are no shops I'll pack extra, I'm just talking about everyday.
