Break ups ! Do you dump the family too ?

Question

When your dating someone and you happen to get close to the family durning the course of the relationship do you break up with the family as well with the ex ? For example say you and you now ex have a kid together and someone in his family invites you to an event where he/ she will also be , and you have yet to get over the break up . Do u still go to the event because the family invites you or do u politely decline because you an so&so; aren't goin to be together so u rather distance urself from that person & since u aren't apart of that family only the baby (whom isn't old enough to go out without mama) is u don't feel the need to be included ? All opinions r welcome

If you have a kid together no... they are still family. Everything doesn't revolve around your relationship. Your child doesnt stop having grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins because you and their dad don't share a bed anymore. I wouldn't attend a family event without the child though...

Personally I say keep your distance. They are his family first before they are yours. Doesn't mean you shouldnt be cordial but I would def keep my distance

If the family is related to your baby (like his parents are the baby's grandparents etc) AND you like then then yes I would keep in touch with them, especially if they're nice enough to include you ! Just keep your head up and stay mature so there's no drama.

Think it depends on the situation and how you feel at the time! my ex and I were together 3 years and I'm still friend's with his family but only if he's out of town do I go to an event or be with his sister. he is my ex for a reason! lol. good luck girl

As long as children are not involved, do NOT talk to my family if we break up. They are mine. That's all there is to it. You keep yours, too. You brought them with you, and when you pack up you have to take ALL of your baggage. Ciao.

You are connected to that family through your baby.. I would still maintain a relationship with them for your child's sake

It depends on what kind of event and if the child's father has a new relationship and what the relationship is currently between you and him.
If you and him aren't on the same page, I would distance myself.
If it's a birthday of his grandma, skip it. But if it's like a kid's birthday party and you are invited and have your child, yes go ahead.
If he's in a relationship, then it depends how you and the new girlfriend/wife do together. If there's tension, skip it, you don't want to make anybody feel uncomfortable. 
But always confirm with the child's dad if he's okay with it.

Put your feelings aside and do it for the baby. It'll be hard but the best thing is to have a healthy relationship with the family of both sides. Or let dad take baby to his family events. I mean, how old is too young to be away from mom? Baby can't spend time with the dad and his family?

I dated my ex-fiance for 4 years before I broke it off. Afterwards some of the family I was close with tried to reach out... especially his one Aunt. Some of them immediately defriended me. After awhile we just stopped talking... life moves us on. Fast forward to today and some of us are still friends on Facebook so every once in awhile I'll see something come up along my timeline but just scroll on by. If you're still connected in some way with the family, that's great. But blood will always be thicker than water.

me and my oldest daughters  father broke up when she was one. She is eight now I still go to his family functions and celebrate birthdays with his family. it's really not for me but the support  for my daughter. This is her side of her family. ( side note he chooses not to be active dad of father. that's his choice life  goes on without him) regardless if he is there or not I will be at his families houses along with my daughter each and every time. He is irrelevant regardless of the relationship.
