Tongue piercing

Hey ladies, I've been really wanting a tongue piercing for a while now and am just unsure of the process and how much care goes into it after you get it. And I'm kinda hesitant because I have to wear gold earrings and I'm worried about having a reaction to the new piercing. And can I take it out for interviews and stuff like that? How is it in like an everyday type of life? Is there any thing food wise that you cant eat afterward? Just looking for some awesome ladies to share their experiences with me! Maybe some pointers of things to do with it and things to stay away from! Thanks!
