How do I prevent thumb sucking??!!!

My 7 month old has started to suck on her thumb randomly. It's not a constant. She usually bites on her fingers like normal but now she's keeping her thumb in her mouth. Is there any way to keep this from turning into chronic thumb sucking? I understand the self soothe part of it but she's never sucking her thumb in a time of being upset or hungry. Just bored maybe? Idk. I just want her to NOT rely on thumbsucking. Please help!

I asked my sons dr about it when he was a few months old. "Does it bother you or him?" My son grew out of it.

I chose to use a pacifier for the first few months. He doesnt even try to suck his thumb anymore. Id rather a pacifier than dirty fingers.  You can take away a pacifier but you cant take away a thumb

My son grow out of it by two, I didn't do anything to stop him. He's 6 now.
My stepsister son is now 12 years old and still sucks his thumb at night she has tried everything from a young age to make him stop.

I put mittens on my baby girl when she started trying to suck her fingers and got it stopped but she was like 4 months old.

If I see my daughter starting too I'll just take it out and give her something else. She won't take a paci, and she's been chewing on her hands because she's teething but occasionally she will get just her thumb and suck it. Her daddy was a bad thumb sucker when he was a baby so I'm trying to not let her start that habit. She doesn't do it for comfort either like if she's going to bed, she will just randomly do it.
