Barely any words at 15months?

We went to the dr today for my sons 15 month checkup. They told me he should have 8-10 words that he saying by now. Well he only has two. He only says Da and Woof. They aren't very pronounced tho. Has anyone else experienced this? I read books to him all the time but he's not really that interested. I talk to him all the time. I try to get him to say words all the time what am I doing wrong?

My son will be 18 months and really only says mom and mama. He completely understands things(if I ask him to get something or do something) I think his older brother does all the talking for him lol he grunts like a caveman when he wants something. They will talk when they are ready.

If his hearing is fine I wouldn't worry! Every child develops at they're own rate! if he doesn't have any interaction with children that talk or an only child that can make them not talk as early. But honestly15 months I wouldn't worry so long as he passes his hearing test! Good luck!

It definitely could be normal, every child develops at different rates, I don't think Einstein said any words until he was almost 4! However, it may be worth getting a second opinion. I had that problem when I was little. I ended up going to a specialist when I was about 2 and the doctor said I was tongue tied which made it harder for me to speak. I had a minor procedure to clip the underneath of my tongue a little further back and started fully talking by time I was 2 1/12 (a couple of months after the procedure). My mom said everything looked normal with my tongue so she would have never known.

My brother didn't speak til he was 3. Like not a single word. The dr said he'll talk when he wants to talk and to stop doing for him when he points. He's now 27 and doesn't shut up!!!

My daughter didn't say much and I worried about the same thing. I later figured she did know words but chose to be quiet or not say. Also I agree with the other poster, every child develops at their own speed and at 15 months I certainly wouldn't worry. You're not doing anything wrong Momma :)

some kids take awhile to talk I'm sure once he starts talking his vocabulary will take off.

My daughter will be 15 months at the end of the month. She went from saying 3 words to now only saying "dad", "daddy" and "dadda".... she babbles a lot though. We read and work with picture books. I'm really not concerned. She has done everything at her own pace, even decided to enter this world at 36 weeks! I feel like there's too much pressure to hit milestones perfectly. We have enrolled in a weekly play date, being a stay at home working mom I'm sure the interaction will be very helpful!
