(USA) tw: drug use. Does your state have overdose protection laws?
I want everyone to become aware of these laws.
So many states have a law where if you call for help for an overdose from drugs or alcohol, no one will go to jail for seeking help. I'm in North Carolina where I was shocked this was passed--- considering all the (horrible) other laws were famous for 🙄, but that's another topic.
I also know some EMTs have made statements pleading people to be honest about what they've been involved with ("we are not the police, were here to help save you"). If you're an EMT please give your insight, and where you are from.
I also have nasal spray Narcan on hand, which many campuses, pharmacies, and clinics are giving away for free. Narcan (or Naloxene) alone might not completely reverse an overdose, but it will stall it long enough for further help to arrive.
A lot of "heroin" in North Carolina is basically a potent mix of furanylfentanyl and ethanol, cocaine, and morphine all in one. A lot of people are dying within minutes of using.
With careless prescription drug give/take on the rise as well, I hope this helps someone who doesn't know anything about purposeful substance abuse too. Accidental overdoses on prescription drugs are so easy, and children have been reported to easily get access to adult's pain medicine/patches/etc and dying from it.
