Constant straining...

My boy is three weeks old and for a few days now he's been straining to poop or pass gas or burp. His poop has not changed color or consistency but he strains and strains. He doesn't cry but I worry that the straining is not good for him. It keeps him up nights! I am beside myself - all the sites say he is fine and it's normal but seriously?! It sounds like my kid is in pain and is not sleeping. How's this normal?? Help other moms!!
