When did you start your baby on solids?

My daughter is 3 months she eats 4-5 oz of formula. She cluster feeds at night and my MIL wants me to start solids so she can be full and sleep better at night. She was also premature born at 32 weeks.  If you started before six months, why

First of all, Digestive system isn't fully developed yet at 3 months. That's why they recommend you to start solids at 6 months.  Second, at three months all a baby needs is either formula or breastmilk. Third, what are you even questioning this? Your MIL is insane. Sorry.

my pediatrician had my son on high calorie premie formula and said no solids before 6 months. we started small tastes of cereal right around five and a half months. I'm sure your mil means well but I would follow your pediatricians advice especially since she was born so early.

Especially with a premie baby I'd wait! Their development is different than a baby born full term and probably won't be ready for solids til 5-6 months. Mine was born at 38 weeks so he was full term and I started him tasting at 4 months, then added more at 5 months. :) definitely talk to your pediatrician and don't let other people, even your MIL pressure you into starting the baby too soon! You're mommy and you know best!

6 months is the typical time for solids because the baby's stomach and system can't process anything except milk before then

I let my daughter taste test at 4 months which is still early but never anymore than half a tablespoon. 3 months is still very young. At 3 months you can't expect baby to sleep through the night. Baby will still be waking up to feed at least once for the next 2 months. You can't try putting rice cereal in the night formula to weigh baby down.

I gave mine foods at 4 months. she was hungry. at 3 months she was drinking 4oz every two hours. we mixed in rice cereal with her bottles for a few weeks. then we went to foods like squash and blueberries. every baby is different though. to see if my daughter was ready I would have her hold the spoon with me and I'd just give her a bite. it took a week before she would actually eat it. but now she loves food (she's 6 months now).

Obviously when they have enough teeth to chew something solid...? 3 months sounds way too young

The AAP says 6 months is when you can introduce other foods. Talk to your doctor.
