Is it ok to spank your children for discipline?

I was spanked as a child, as well as my brother, and we're perfectly fine. It was only used when we were really really in trouble. It did not cause us any form of damage, emotional or otherwise. When I have children I plan on using spanking as a method of discipline. Personally I think that all the people that say it's abuse are wrong. It's a form of discipline and people have been doing it forever. There's a difference between discipline and abuse.

I think it completely depends on the child, and should be used as a last resort after warnings, and should always be followed up by a loving discussion, but I think if a parent feels that is he best route to go for their child (they know their kid best) then that's their decision to make 🤷‍♀️ not mine

Physical violence is never OK in any other context, so I don't understand why it would be OK in this context. If anything, it seems less OK for an adult (bigger, stronger, all the power) to physically punish a child vs. child-child or adult-adult violence, when you just think about it logically. I think it teaches the wrong lesson. 🤷🏼 That's my opinion!

we spanked our daughter and explained before if she continued her behavior and after the spanking why she got the spanking. 
we tried the corner, we tried getting down to her level but those dont always work. 
she's 8 and is perfectly fine, she's healthy and happy. 
now, this is my opinion for those that are very against spanking and have found other ways, great. we tried everything we could think of besides spanking even talked to her doctor about alternatives which we tried and they work for a little bit but rotated between punishments as some would not work after a while

Ask yourself this question first: Is the child old enough to understand the reason he/she is getting hit? If no: he/she will not learn anything from it. If yes: then why not use reason? I recommend reading up on gentle parenting- I don't agree with all of what I've read but one thing I do feel is 100% spot on is that if you wouldn't speak to or treat an adult you respected a certain way, it shouldn't be acceptable in regards to a child. Tiny humans are people too, and are much more receptive when they aren't being attacked.

Read the numerous studies that have shown the negative impacts that spanking has.  Also review that the US is one of the very few civilized (and other) countries that doesn't have this outlawed.
Then appeal to your common sense.  How are you going to teach your chikd how to use their brains if as a parent you think it's appropriate to beat your child to get them to listen to you.  
Think about the "types" of parents you have seen five a child a spanking in public.  I personally haven't seen any of them be highly educated or classy.  Typically these are low educated, low income, and just kinda trashy.  That's my observation.
I choose to raise my family that we use our words. I follow my own logic and the studies of scholars who prove that spanking your child is harmful for the rest of their lives.

I think it is. my cousins little boy is a huge brat. he knows his parents will only put him in time out or take away his toys (which he can get back by "being sorry") so he never listens to them. I'm talking an 8year old running out front naked to avoid a bath or screaming at the top of his lungs because he's bored. he is definitely old enough to understand better and old enough to understand why he's being disciplined

As a child I was spanked as a last resort after warnings were ignored and bad behavior continued. My siblings and I all grew up fine, no long term "issues" that some say can arise from being physically punished  Now as an adult and mother of my own daughter can absolutely say that I think spanking is fine. As long as it is a last resort of punishment and is followed with a discussion of why the spanking was given and how to avoid it in the future. I've worked in many different aspects of childcare and can honestly say that far too many children are coddled by their parents who excuse and facilitate bad behavior. Children catch on very quickly that they can do anything they want without any repercussions. You're doing a child a disservice by not disciplining them, and they will absolutely learn that they can and will get away with anything. Children need to be taught how to behave properly, and if multiple warnings are ignored it's not inappropriate to give a spanking when needed. As long as it's discussed afterwards in a loving supportive way, I don't think there's any harm done.
