HELP! I want a tattoo that would be meaningful to me but my boyfriend thinks I should think about it longer & not get it right now. What should I do?

I’m 18 years old & my best friend died in April from a vehicle accident.  I want a tattoo in remembrance of her.  I don’t have to get it Bc i can remember her with or without the tattoo. But I want it to make myself happy.   I’ve asked a couple of peoples Opinions but most say I should wait.  I don’t want to but I don’t know what I should do.

Your first tattoo starts with an idea, and ends with ink in your body. Know your design, and know your placement. Draw it out, or have a tattoo artist help you plan the actual design. That part can be the most difficult of the process, and can take a while to achieve the look and feel that you are going for. Once you have the image you want, and you know where you want it to be placed on your body, tape it to your wall (on your mirror / next to you bed / anywhere you can see it all the time). Leave it there for a minimum of six months. Look at it every day. Give yourself enough time to let it sink in, and if you still want it after six months, then get it.
After your first, second, third tattoo, the time you spend with the design matters less and less, but I think it's an important routine to do for your first (and I'm assuming it is your first).

Two of my tattoos have no meaning. I don’t think all tattoos need a meaning. I think if it’s something you want badly enough then go for it!!

When I was 16 I wanted to get a tattoo on a whim pretty much.. put veeery little thought into it. My bf (husband now) told me not to do it. I did it anyway because I was like “yeah yeah whatever” and I seriously regret it because it’s hideous lol 🤦🏻‍♀️
However, as long as you take your time and put a lot of thought into what you want to get and where I think it’s very nice you want to get a tattoo in remembrance of your friend. You’re 18 and an adult so do what you want!

I would get the tattoo but spend some time thinking on a design that will represent your friend well. It's going to be there forever and it's a significant tattoo!

Maybe put more thought into it, get her family involved and all of you guys design a tattoo together in remembrance to her. I’m super close with my best friends family and she is with mine and of anything happened to one of us the family would definitely the involved in anything like that has to do with the other.

there's my memorial tattoo for a friend who died of brain cancer when I was 16. This was my 3rd tattoo at 17. i saw a bunch of deer the day i leaned he died in the middle of the day.  his saying was "great and amazing". he died in feb of 2015 and i got it in August of 2015. give yourself time to think and research.

I would get the tattoo, but maybe just something to represent her- versus like a name/date etc thing. Like a nice quote, or a symbol. Like me and my spouse have matching tattoos, but they're anchors, so the tattoo is for him, but it's not completely obvious. Like maybe she liked butterflies, or she was a big hp fan (deathly hallows symbol, maybe she always wore a bracket with an anchor or an infinity symbol, or she wore a distinct pair of glasses, idk- something like that. Something little you can remember her by.
