14 month old tantrums in public

HELP!! I cannot go anywhere in public without my son screaming and throwing little tantrums. He is so good at home, and also if we go outside to the park or for a walk. But the moment we step inside an enclosed area (restaurant, grocery store, mall) he just gets super agitated and screams. Its come to a point where I cant go anywhere without my husband being there to help. I have gotten so many rude looks and comments & I dread having to go through that on my own. Is anyone else going through this? Any advice on how to make my son more calm in public?
