When is too soon?

My baby is sadly being put down tomorrow. I feel awful but know it's the right thing to do.
The thing is, mum and I don't want to be without a dog, and we'd rather have a dog than a security system.
We did have another dog that we got in February 2015, but he sadly had to be put down in October 2016.
We got her in April 2007 and are not sure when is too soon to get another.

Honestly, the right time is when you think it is. 
When my partners family had to put down their pup they waited 2 years as they didn't want to feel like they were replacing their old dog. 
My family however got a dog within a few months as we felt lonely without the company.

Aw I'm sorry George 😢 I don't think there's a right time, it just depends on when you're personally ready. I could see us getting a new dog if something happened to my dog, even though I'd be heartbroken. Nothing could replace my dog, but we can afford to give a dog a home that needs one, and I'd want to be able to do that as soon as possible.

It's always so sad when this happens, I'm really sorry. It's such a hard decision to make. 
As for a new pet, I've always gotten one sooner, but not because I felt ready. When we had to let my last cat go, I kept saying I wasn't ready for a new cat, but my dog was so lonely we got a kitten (which sadly also ended terribly and with everyone who touched her getting rabies shots, but that's a whole other story.). It made me feel better to see a new pet in the house. And after the kitten, my husband talked me into our current cat pretty quickly, and again I was happy with his decision.  I guess my very rambling point is that you might not feel ready but it could still be the right choice.

I’m so sorry to hear this ☹️ you are doing the right thing, it’s a really awful decision but it’s the right thing to do. 
When tigger died I didn’t want anymore cats, after two weeks her sister wasn’t pining for her but was very bored and didn’t know what to do with herself. (She has Jake but he’s old and just sleeps), we decided to get another cat to keep her company. It was totally to benefit jasmine, we didn’t want another. Anyway this cat had a brother and I don’t feel okay separating animals, so we took both. The house is lively again, the cats are all friends and it’s brought more happiness into our lives. For me, two weeks was soon BUT it was a good decision. Do what feels best for you and your family, no one else’s opinion matters

Whenever you guys feel comfortable getting another one. There's no time that's going to be okay for everyone. Some might not get another dog for years, some might get a new dog tomorrow, just do what feels right to you guys. I'm sorry about your puppy :(

I need to adopt another cat shortly after losing each one. They don't replace the previous one whatsoever but they help me through the grief. And a house without pets feels so lonely and empty to me. After my last cat died, I still have his brother - but he sleeps all day and night so I had to get a kitten to be my companion and help me through the grief. Also I could tell he missed having a kitty companion around. Now my older cat is terminally ill and I'm so glad I adopted my little girl because I'll need her more than ever when my old guy passes. I'm pregnant and really hoping he doesn't pass while I'm pregnant...it'd be even harder tomorrow deal with and I want him to meet the baby so badly. 😿

Aw I'm so sorry. My pup is 14, so I know we're gonna have to put him down fairly soon. I would say any time you're ready for a new pup, is a good time. I know it can seem like a replacement and i felt so guilty for wanting to adopt a kitten after like a year of my cat being gone, but you just have to think of the good times with them and how much they loved you and would want to to be happy❤️
