Contractions?

Please no judgement... I'm 37 weeks, will be 38 weeks on Friday. I keep having back pain, which I know is normal. I also keep getting period like cramps. This is my first pregnancy so I'm not sure what contractions are suppose to feel like. My OB hasn't really explained it well either. Can anyone tell me what they feel like and when I should I guess "Time" them? The last one and this one was about 6 mins apart.

Yes, I rolled my eyes when people were like, oh you will know. Mine started during the night and it was when I could no longer sleep through them that I got up and tried to walk them off. But they kept coming and that's when I started timing them. They were consistent for three hours so I went in and had my baby girl that evening.

They feel like period cramps that become more intense.  If they are consistent you can time them.  If they are 5 min apart and about 45s long for about an hour it’s time to call your doc!  Drink lots of water and see if they go away. Also if they go away by walking around then it’s just BH and you’re dehydrated....

I had no idea either. And everyone always told me "oh you'll know when you're having contractions" and I was like ok well that doesn't really help me. But holy shit were they right lol I had no doubt in my mind. They are intense!

I had a false alarm with contractions at 39 weeks. You're Braxton hicks will intensify as practice but labor contractions will be too painful to talk through. Like you'll stop mid sentence from them. That's what my doctor told me and the nurses on the phone when I called with my false alarm. They could tell by my voice it wasn't strong enough. Once real ones came I could see they were much more intense.

I never knew it was the real deal until I was at the hospital and they wouldn’t let me leave 😂
Went in when they wouldn’t go away after drinking water and a bath. Even as the nurse said I was at 8 cm they weren’t painful and I was laughing through them. Soooo... you might not “know” like people say. It doesn’t hurt to go in though, especially if they’re consistent. If I had waited for it to hurt I’d be crowning at home
