what are forceps used for in labor?

I didn't know that they sometimes use forceps in labor. what do they do? they look really scary and I don't want it

they use it to pull baby out if he ir she is stuck.

They're a tool used to pull a baby out by their head. My doctor wanted to use them with my doctor and my aunt chimed in (thankfully) and demanded he use his hand. Because forceps can harm a babys head. My brother had dents in his head from his.. they wanted to do forceps or a vacuum to move my daughter.. wasn't happening. And she was moved by hand and delivered naturally.

I was born with forceps as I was stuck. They slipped off my head and cut me. I don’t have any scarring (that I can see unless it’s in my hair) but I do suffer from migraines now as an adult which studies have linked to forcep births.
