Blighted ovum possibility reassurance!
Just wanted to post some reassurance, in case anyone else has to go through the same situation of an early ultrasound.
I had my first ultrasound at 7w3d, according to my LMP. The tech found the gestational & yolk sac on my ultrasound & kept asking me if I was 100% sure of my LMP. I was 100% because I used a period tracker app for about 3 years, so I know when my past owns started & ended. So, I went to talk to my doctor to discuss the results of the ultrasound. She said the sacs were measuring 6w1d & there was no fetal pole or embryo to be seen. She immediately started telling me about a blighted ovum & that I basically had a 50/50 chance on either: 1.) I ovulated late or 2.) the embryo will never grow, there will never be a baby. She didn’t seem optimistic. My doctor told me to call if I experienced cramping or bleeding & told me no diagnosis was made for sure, yet. However, I planned for the worst, of course. I went home quite devastated. I cried almost that entire day & stayed in my room. I started researching online about others this has happened to & ladies, it happens A LOT. It is actually very common. This is why doctors prefer not to do early scans (before 8 weeks). It is OKAY not to see much on a 6-7 week scan!! Maybe even an 8 week one, too. I started reading something new about the same situation DAILY. Well, today I chose to go to a clinic that offered free ultrasounds because I couldn’t bear waiting anymore. & just like a majority of other women’s results, THERE WAS MY LIL ONE & A STRONG HEARTBEAT! It was flickering on the screen so perfectly. The nurse showed me the HB at like 3 different angles! 125 best per minute! My due date changed drastically. I went from May 15th to May 27th!! All this goes to say: please stay strong during this time of uncertainty. Our bodies aren’t exactly clockwork. Clearly I ovulated HELLA late OR my baby had a slow start, but either way: I’m done questioning it. My baby is there & healthy & that’s the most I could ever ask for from this pregnancy. Please share in the comments if you had a similar experience. 🙏🏽
