Fertility Costs
My husband and I went to our meet and greet with our fertility Dr today. The office had mailed me out a ton of forms and other paperwork that needed to be filled out prior to coming to our appt today. We got there and checked in. We were seen immediately. Everyone seemed friendly enough. The nurse took my vitals and ask some questions. She took my packet of forms to the Dr so that he could review everything before he brought us into his office. I had bariatric surgery almost a year ago and my PCOS seems to have gotten better enough for me to have a period and ovulate on my own without needing medication to help me do those things. He sent me for some labs and while I was doing that my husband was in a small cold room somewhere making his "deposit" so that they could go ahead and start his semen analysis. So when I was done with my labs I went back upstairs and waited for my husband. We met their financial person who went over the cost of everything and told us that because of how my ob-gyn had worded the referral that the only charge we had to pay for today was the semen analysis. I have 5 appts with them over the next month and the cost is overwhelming. I realize children aren't cheap but it really gets under my skin that we have to pay soooo much to try to have a baby and then you have people out here that are having kids right and left that don't need anymore kids or people who are neglecting their kids or some are killing their kids. I see it all the time on the news and I'm like "why?" I just don't understand Our insurance covers nothing. Again the only reason today's visit was covered is because of how my ob-gyn worded the referral. So I'm thankful for that. It's been a very long 14 years of trying and nothing ever happens. I'm praying that the 87 lbs. that I've lost has helped enough to where I'm good to go and that my husband's swimmers are doing what they are supposed to. I can't imagine how much "treatment" will be if it's needed. I just needed to vent a little and I'd love to hear others stories. I'm just overwhelmed. Any Thoughts? Thanks for the input.
