IVF - 5 weeks Pregnant Heavy Bleeding and Clots...looking for hope

Kirsten

Hang with me here this may be a long story but I want to see if anyone has had anything like this happen?

Little backstory: After ttc for 5 years, 3 cycles of IVF with ICSI and genetic screening we finally got what we were hoping for a BFP after transferring just 1 "genetically normal" embryo (I'm told these have higher chances of splitting to twins). I had 2 hCg tests 2 days apart at 4 weeks then 4.2 and my numbers went from 136 up to 401. Went in to see my primary for totally unrelated issue on Friday and who knows why but she wanted to do an hCg test at 5.2 ... I was a little nervous because I really haven't been feeling anything as far as pregnancy symptoms but numbers came back at 5,836. I noticed on Sunday and Monday clear mucus which google tells me is a really great sign of a healthy pregnancy (finally something that points all good)!

Now here comes the craziness...

Today stayed home from work this morning but got up to get ready to head in this afternoon and there is bright red blood on the toilet paper. My husband who happened to be coming home for lunch at this point finds me freaking out because bright red is worrisome. Within 10 minutes of first swipe I am full blown heavy bleeding dropping huge ping pong ball size clots every time I stand up or go to the bathroom. I called my IVF doctor and my OB in town (since I'm 2 hours away from IVF clinic) and they bring me in for another hCg which turns out to be 11,300. Since it's been 4 days since the last one I expected it to be twice that and in the 20,000 range.

Well my husband was starting to look a little pale from me describing how much heavy bleeding I was having and how many clots came out. It was consistent for about 5 hours. I have zero pain no cramping whatsoever the last week or so and none today. Well he brings me to the ER. They did an ultrasound and the tech says "yup looks like your assumptions about a miscarriage are right" (now I know I may be too early to really see anything)...he did use the transvaginal probe but to be honest he didn't even mention anything about what brought him to that conclusion. The doctor does a pelvic exam and cleans out the clots and tells me the bleeding appears to have lightened up and that my cervix is closed and basically covers her butt by saying looks like a miscarriage but may not be. I've been back home for 3-4 hours since and the bleeding is very very light. Like I only notice when I wipe.

I go back in 2 days to see where my numbers are at again but I'm curious if anyone's had symptoms like this and how it turned out. Hoping for a little miracle but also ready for reality.
