The twins' birth story!

Lauren • Twin mom pregnant with twins.. again.

My pregnancy was pretty perfect for twins all the way up until 32 weeks when I found out my cervix had shortened significantly and my "Braxton hicks" were not actually Braxton hicks, so I was admitted to antepartum for 9 days. At 34 weeks I was discharged and told to take it easy at home, because the babies were trying their best to come.

At exactly 36 weeks I was watching tv and all of the sudden could barely see anything and my feet were gigantic. Like, my husband had to call the doctor for me because I couldn't read my phone. So, we went to the hospital, they checked my cervix (which had gone from 2 to 3) and they said everything looked good and sent me home. The next day, I had my weekly check up so I just waited it out and told my doctor then. Since I was having twins, I had an ultrasound at every appointment. They checked weights and noticed that baby girl had stopped growing but baby boy had continued, so I was sent to a fetal care specialist. The fetal care specialist measured her an entire pound larger than my regular sonographer so they once again sent me home.

That night, my back started hurting so bad that I was throwing up and uncontrollably sobbing. I don't do either of those. Ever. I have a very high pain tolerance. Finally, after a couple of hours, my husband noticed and woke up and called my doctor who said to come in immediately. We got to L&D; at 6 am, they checked my cervix (which had gone from 3 to 4 in 1 1/2 days), and told me to start calling family because the back pains were actually VERY close together contractions. (Like less than a minute.)

I got my epidural at 7 and was wheeled to OR. I couldn't deliver naturally because I had back surgery and baby girl was breech. They asked if I could feel them pinching me and I said yes, so they gave me more medicine in my epidural catheter. This happened 3 times before they decided to get started anyway. Well, they started tugging and I felt EVERYTHING. I was screaming and grabbing the chair and was immediately put under. I woke up to both babies on me. Samuel was 6 pounds 7 ounces and Caroline was 4 pounds 9 ounces (which is less than what both sonographers guessed, so she should have been delivered early). But they're now 2 1/2 weeks and perfect!
