One year old talking

When it comes to words toddlers know, do they mean words they were able to pronounce until now or words they use commonly (every day)?

My little guy used to say dada when his dad came home but hasn’t for over a month. Lately he’s been saying bana to banana. Then he started calling water bana too =)) He can say mama but doesn’t say it to me specifically. He seems to associate it with expressing wanting to be comforted.

He called our cats Kitty and Aki a couple of times but doesn’t really say it that very often. The only words he seems to use more commonly are titty and bau (peekaboo in our language).

My expectations might be a little off but I thought that once he learned some words he’d actually be talking a lot (even though with limited vocabulary). Do your little ones talk a lot during the day?
