Why do people do this?!

Yesterday my father in law gave my 5 month old a "taste" of cake, I then told him no solids till 6 months and definitely not cake he proceeded to put candy in her mouth! and kept telling me to give her a taste of everything we were eating! he said his kids turned out fine and doesn't understand why I say no. sorry just wanted to vent!

It doesn't matter if it harms them or not. The point (to other posters) is that you are the mother and you specifically said NO SOLIDS, and he should respect that.

My father in law thinks it's really funny to try and sneak my son sweet tea and it makes me INSANE. I've told him not to more than once and it drives me bananas that he doesn't respect my decision as the mother. It makes me honestly not want to bring my son around him, even though I know that's extreme. I just feel like if he can't respect a simple request like that one, what other things will be feel comfortable doing that I've said no to?

personally I'm going to start my baby to taste Foods around four to five months and solids at 6 that's what doctor said was fine but it is your baby they have to respect your wishes and if they don't tell them you're not going to bring baby around anymore putting candy in a baby's mouth that's a little much

So annoying. I'd take a hard line - if he can't follow your wishes he can't hold the baby when there's food around.
