bowel movement?!

its been 4 days since my c section and I haven't had a bowel movement yet. I'm gassy and although I can't pass gas as much as I want to it still happens. I feel like I need to go but then once I'm in the bathroom I can't it doesn't happen...how long did it take you guys to be able to go? its making me nervous. I do take stool softeners.

It took me until the 4th day and I knew it was going to be large and impacted. I also have hemorrhoids , so that made the pain worse. Drink water, take the max dose of stool softener that you can (for me it was two a day at bed time), high fiber. I also recommend using either a squatty potty or propping your feet up on a small stool so that your knees are above your hips when you sit on the toilet. Hold your breath when you start pushing and then exhale through the end of the push. Lean your back against the back of the toilet. 
Prepare to spend a couple of trips to the bathroom going through this before it comes out. It should come out as one very large piece and once it’s out you’ll feel so much better. Good luck

They let you leave the hospital before going? 
My sister had a c-section and wasn’t allowed to leave till she went pee and poop by herself. 
Sorry I don’t have a solution, just thought it was odd they sent you out without doing your business first

My grandfather brought me in a huge bag of trail mix when I had my first c-section. I thought he was batty and he didn’t give any explanation. I of course ate the whole bag because the food sucked. I’m sooooo glad he did and I never packed my hospital bag without one. Listen, allot of it is fear because of the pain is so horrible those first couple of days. Walk as much as possible drink your water and let nature take its course. It is actually a huge relief once you do go.

I didn't until like 4 or 5 days after. Between the surgery and the narcotics, it makes it hard (and painful), but my doctor wasn't really concerned it took that long.

I was able to go on day 4 or 5. I remember just sitting there and letting my body do its thing. I was told not to push it out, much like passing gas. Im now 4 weeks post C-section and am still taking my two stool softeners before bed. I stopped taking them at the end of week two and regretted it. I tried stopping at the end of week three and it was still difficult. I drink about 2 liters of water a day too. Good luck!

I took the stool softeners from the hospital for 5 days straight. I didn't poop until day 5 or 6. It didn't hurt at all. Slid right out 😆

what worked for me was going on a 24 hour liquid diet..also lay flat on left side with pillows between your legs. i also had to use 2 supposatories within the 24 hours
