What is this bump?

Over the years, I've noticed every now and then I will develop a hard bump near my vagina. It typically appears on the labia. Recently I had one near the back of my vaginal opening and last night I had one on the skin right above my vulva. The bumps are usually hard and about the size of a dime. If I squeeze them they will "pop" and then disappear in a day or so, but they are so painful if I do not drain them. I've always thought maybe they are just pimples or an infected hair follicle, but now I'm starting to question what they are because I'm getting them more often. Anyone else get these or know what they could be?

It sounds like it may be a sebaceous cyst. I would definitely talk to your doctor though! If it's happening often it should be addressed don't ignore it

What you're describing sounds like ingrown hairs.  I get them.  They're red and about the size of a pea and they really hurt.  Sometimes if I don't drain them they turn hard.  If you get one that turns hard and then you squeeze it, look at the hard mass and see if there is a hair in there.

you need to go to a doctor. have you not brought it up at your yearly well woman visits.

Sounds like it might be a bartholin cyst. I've gotten a few. They are very painful but I can treat them at home about half of the time with a warm compress. Sometimes they're just too painful and I have to have a doctor lance it and prescribe antibiotics. If you get more than one or two a year, I think there's a procedure they can do to fix it. Definitely bring it up with your doctor and try to go in when you actually have one so they can make sure that's what it is.
