Rare delivery..
So my due date was 9/9/17. I had a weekly appointment on 9/7 and was 2cm dilated but not thinning out much. I was a little disappointment, hoping that my sweet boy would be coming sooner. But 4:30Am on 9/8, my water broke! And 30 minutes later, contractions started hard and fast. Got my husband up, he got the car ready and my mom came over to ride to the hospital with us. We get to there by 7am, I’m checked out and I’m at 4cm! I was so excited! While in the checking room waiting to be admitted to delivery, I start throwing up, but I’m so excited that I’m bent over the toilet with no pants on, having contractions, and laughing uncontrollably! I had everyone in hysterics 😅 finally admitted around 8am and wanted right in the birthing tub. I wanted to go with no medication if I could help it. I get in, and about an hour later we notice the water wasn’t getting hot. So the staff was so kind enough to just set up another room as quickly as they could with the water hot and ready before I went in instead of trying to figure out what was up. I hobbled over wet and just wrapped up in a sheet 😂 I ended up not staying in the tub long because the labor had moved into my lower back and it was worse sitting in the tub. So I just stood in the shower until about noon. They checked me again and I was at 5cm. A little worried that I wasn’t as farther along as I hoped since I was going pretty strong. They assured me that I was just in a natural pause in labor and it’s not any problem. Things cold kick up within an hour or a few. After an hour, I decided to used nitrous oxide. Laughing gas. They unfortunately had to put an IV in for me to use it. Things went great for the next 6 hours. But, it was still 6 hours, and then I still hadn’t progressed more! Still stuck at 5! So they had me walk around the maternity floor for awhile to try and speed things up. 2 hours later, still nothing. So they started pitocine. I continued to use the gas until about 11pm, then they made me stop because my heart rate was sly rocketing. After 2 more hours, I’m still at 5! They recommend epidural so I could try and relax and sleep. I GLADLY took it. But a little while after it’s done and in, I realize that it’s not working on my left side. They go back and get me trying to move, they adjust the tube, up the mess, everything. Nothing was working and I begin to panic and give up. It’s 5:30am on 9/9, after 25 hours of labor, and I’m not moving from 5cm. I start losing control of my breathing, I’m shaking, I’m crying. Screaming at my nurses (I had a uterine and urine catheters in and wanted them out!) around 7Am, they kept pushing a c section or redo the epidural from start again. Ultimately my husband made the decision for a c section. He wasn’t able to watch me like that anymore and was scared our little boy would have problems. I get wheeled in the OR, and had the spinal put in. Instantly! I was calm again, and breathing right and heart rate went down! I get checked again. And all I hear is “oh my god. This is amazing!” My doctor then tells me that I’m at 10cm and baby was beginning to crown! They rushed to get my husband and mother and told them I was going to start pushing. I start pushing around 7:30 and I’m so happy again! I pushed as hard as I could, given I couldn’t feel from the chest down!
And at 8:28 Am, on 9/9/17, right on my due date, our sweet boy was born! 7lbs14ounces. My doctor had told me that I was only the 3rd person in her more than 15 years of being a doctor that she had ever seen deliver vaginally in the OR!😊
Sweet little Ej❤️
