Suggestions?

Okay so I posted yesterday about nursing being painful. It wasn’t as bad yesterday but my nipples are awful now. I cried when I was feeding him earlier. The nurse said that he is latching perfectly so it’s not that. Would you guys suggest a shield? I know they say not to use one unless needed but I’m dying here. I dread him waking up and wanting to eat 😔 and he’s cluster feeding bad.

I say use a shield or perhaps a pump just to give your nipples a rest for a few feedings... and coconut oil works wonders

how old is baby? it can hurt for a couple of weeks, but then should subside

I found that even when the latch is perfect, it still hurts for a while. Think if it as a new muscle that hurts when you work out. Your nipples are being used in a way they never have before, in a continuous manner. If you aren’t cracked and bleeding, id avoid using a shield. It’s best for baby to get used to your nipple as it is. It will get better. Mine took about a week.

Yes, yes, yes! Use a shield! My poor nipples began bleeding because it hurt so bad.. The shield literally saved them. Another thing that really helps is to switch up the nursing position.

And no lip or tongue tie? Hm. 
Either way, I say go for the shield. Your baby has an incomplete nervous system and is learning from your stress responses; anything that minimizes your anxiety is good for your baby, too!
Also rub coconut oil on your nipples routinely. That helped mine heal.
