Competitive sports and the trans community

🇲🇽

I was having this conversation with my wife and I have no idea what to think at this point so I wanted to get CC’s opinion. But PLEASE tell me if any of this post is offensive or insensitive and I will edit or delete.

My wife (trans woman) used to compete in races pretty often. She has not entered any races in a while so I asked her why. She said she doesn’t think it would be fair if she entered to race against cis women because she would have an unfair advantage being born male. She pointed out that she even if she came in 10th place against the men, she was still several minutes ahead of the first place woman. So she would not feel right racing against cis women.

My first instinct is that she should be able to race as the gender she identifies. I think supporting gender identity is more important than competition. But she has always been an athlete and has a different perspective on competitive sports.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this issue. However, please stick to the topic of competitive sports and the trans community —this thread is not a space to challenge the identities of trans people and all rude comments will be reported.
