Bleeding...help!

Alright so I have been on the NuvaRing for about 3 years now. In the past month, it was time to refill my Rx but I didn't get to do it one bc it costs a lot and my schedule hasn't allowed me a lot of time to go get it refilled. When my husband and I have sex, there is ALWAYS blood that is still coming out or whatever you want to call it. This has been 3 weeks of this. We have always used protection in the 3 weeks I haven't had my NuvaRing in but this bleeding isn't normal is it? Should I go to the doctor or just go and get it refilled and hope it stops?
