Should I Give It To Her?

My friend died. I'm very upset, we went through a lot together. I'm really, REALLY good at chess and he's the one that taught me how to play. The viewing is on Wednesday, and I'm going there to support his mother because she and I are good friends. I still have the old chess set he and I used to play on all the time for years, and I want to give it to her. Should I? I don't want to make her more emotional than she already is, she's been through so much and is trying to stay strong for everyone else.

Sure but I wouldn’t give it to her then and there. Visit her a few days after. I’d imagine she probably doesn’t want to carry the chess set around. I’m sure she’d appreciate the gesture.

Im sorry for your loss, losing some is never easy.
I would go and see your friends Mum after the funeral next day or when your ready and take the chess set and say “this is his chess set and we both used for years” and say “you would like her to have it,because it was her sons”
She might say she wants you to keep it because of the memory’s you have with it. I know I would want you to have it if I was me her his mum’s spot.

Gestures like that can make a huge difference for someone grieving. Maybe do it on another day than the funeral though cuz memorial days are absolutely exhausting for the family. So I think she would love the gesture but you should wait till after
