When to pump

Question

I’m really not sure when I should pump my breast. I never breastfed before so this is new to me. Do I pump one breast while he’s feeding on the other one? Do I do it in between feedings? I’m really not sure how this works and would love some advice.

I'm a new mom and what works for me and my baby is she nurses on both sides, then falls asleep and I pump both sides as soon as she sleeps then I'm good to go when she wakes up in about 2-2.5 hrs for her next feeding

You can nurse your baby on both sides if you like. Then after pump both sides. I have pumped while nursing as well. Whatever works best for you really.

You can feed one side and simultaneously pump the other. I always feed both sides and pumped both sides. I would pump right after a feeding (and I did like 10-15 mins a side feeding). If I couldn’t do it then for some reason I would try to do it before an hour passed after a feed so I would have more by the time she was hungry again. I didn’t time my pump sessions. Just pumped til it slowed down.
