Adoption Cost?

Question

For anyone who has adopted privately (not from foster care):
How much was the total cost?
Attorney fees, travel, finding the birth mother, housing while you wait for Baby to arrive, etc.
I'm working on a budget to see when we can buy our own home, and after that, I want to factor is a savings for a private adoption ❤️

The adoptive parents for my baby have paid 5000 just for the attorney. But I have good insurance so they don’t have any medical bills to it for me.

I'm assuming you are thinking domestic adoption but i just wanted to share my aunt's story. she adopted two children, siblings, from Columbia when they were 5 and 7.. she initially put out around $35,000 for 1 child and then the adoption agency came to her and said look, there are 7 kids in this one family that are all siblings and need homes. we would like to keep them in pairs or groups. there are 2 other adoptive families interested. for an additional $5000 to cover legal stuff and and the transfer to the US. and if you are in agreement to let the children visit a few times a year, you can take 2 kids, the other families live within a 2 hour drive from you and are willing to take the other 5 between them... so my aunt got 2 kids for $40,000, 7 children were adopted that day and brought to the US and they all agreed to get together one weekend a month so the kids can still grow up together... the state she lives in gave a huge tax deduction for adoption, there are federal tax deductions and her church actually collected over $25,000 for them to adopt.... so it wasn't nearly as bad cost wise as she had planned...
