Baby failed hearing screening?

My baby failed the hearing screening at birth. He’s currently 5 weeks and we just had one today but he failed that also. Anyone else have this and everything be okay? It’s only one ear that’s failing

My oldest daughter failed both tests too. We went to a specialist and they ran more tests and she passed. I think she has selective hearing (she’s almost 12) but other than that she hears fine now

I have a premie born at 35 weeks. My baby boy failed 2 screenings in the hospital.  We were referred to a specialist where he failed again a month later.  We were then referred to an ENT who had trouble seeing the anatomy clearly.  We will follow up in another month. I was first devastated, but realized the baby is responding to sound at home, so I'm sure he will be okay.

Hearing screening is meant to be a preliminary test to determine the necessity for further testing.  The pass/fail part can be unfortunate wording.  Just make sure you follow up.  -NICU RN

my daughter failed her hearing tests 3 times and had to be referred to hospital. She went at 3 months old but her ears were still so small with her being born so little so they had to use specialist equipment but she passed 4th time round. I panicked something chronic until we got the good news.
