maternity leave

okay everyone when does it seem appropriate to start maternity leave? My job is pretty good about time off and working with what you want and need and I plan to take off 3 months after my little boy arrives. Just looking for what other people are thinking of doing as I'm a first time mom and have no clue about this stuff. I work in childcare and am always picking kids up and running after then.
