How would you feel if your child converts to another religion as an adult?

I converted from Catholic to Islam through research. It took me two years to study the Torah, Bible and the Quran. I made my decision in 2012 and couldn't be any happier. Sadly, I have yet to tell my family for fear of being ostracized for my decision. I have a child on the way and the family wants a baptism and communion. Neither of these are practiced in Islam. I just want to see what everyone thinks before I spring this news on the family.

No one has said this to you but just in case someone does..
My fiancé's family wants my daughter to be baptized as a baby and my fiancé and I already decided that we will not..I posted a topic about it and quite a few ladies on here told me to baptize her to "show respect to his family". 
I'm here to tell you that you should not compromise your beliefs, no matter what they are!!! I was kind of disturbed that people would think it's okay to fake being okay with something and compromise my beliefs just because they don't match up with someone else's. It's your baby, your life, your choices!!
I would definitely tell them sooner rather than later, however. Give them time to accept your decisions.

I'm atheist, and if my child decided to believe in any religion I would be fine with it. As long as they made up their own mind and aren't doing it for someone else. And as long as it's not a cult (like doomsday or take you away from family forever cult)

My mother is Christian (Presbyterian) and she makes it well known she is disappointed that her three adult children are all atheist/agnostic now. I don't hide my feelings from my mother, and every time she brings it up I make sure to tell her that she should be happy knowing she raised three happy, kind, thoughtful children. She should be proud of that, not of our religion.

Im not religious and I'm planning to raise any future children without religion in their lives. Obviously I would live them no matter what and I totally believe that religion is a personal decision bat everyone has to make for themselves, but honestly I would be crushed if they adopted any religion. It would really disappoint me:(

I was raised Baptist. My mother is very religious and my father went from Catholic to not believing in organized religion at all. Now that I'm an adult and have gotten a chance to study different religions for myself I've chosen the same path as my father. If my children dicided that they wanted to go to church or study the Quran or anything they choose I'd be completely supportive. I'd even sit in service with them. As a parent why would you want to make your child feel anything but loved and supported?

You can be kind and gently explain it's not their decision to make. Maybe add that when your child is older and ready to explore religion, it will still not be their choice. Just like you made a decision about your own beliefs. And if they're like my family, they'll bring it up over and over again.  I just started putting up a little distance and letting them know it's because of their attitude.
