Leaving my babies for 5 days 😩

So I recently got three new kittens. They are eventually going to be outside cats but for right now they are inside our craft room until they get fixed, get a little bigger, and get microchipped. My boyfriend and I live in his parents basement right now and we are planning on going on a vacation for 5 days. I think they’ll be okay on their own, but I’m wondering if I should have his mom check in on them every once in a while. They have an automatic door and water bowl, two large litter boxes, and they usually are good to fend for themselves.

The only concern I have with her checking in on them is well 1) they don’t really know her and when they back up from her, hiss at her or something she says a shitty comment about how “it’s my house, so you better start liking me.” & if they make a mess, something smells etc. she throws a fit about it and says some shitty comment about how they need to go outside soon.

She also has a 15lb dog that they aren’t used to yet, and she brings him down and scares them all of the time. When I have the cats outside in a big crate play pin she lets him come down and he will bark at them and mess with them.

She just thinks her dog is the king of the house and can do no wrong and “it’s his house so they better get used to him if they’re going to live here.”

I love her, she’s the nicest person ever. She just doesn’t realize her comments are shitty and that letting the dog terrorize the cats is so mean to them.

It almost makes me not want to go on vacation. I love my babies, I know they’ll have to go outside eventually but I don’t want them to be tormented until then... any suggestions please? 😕

Also we keep them in the craft room usually with their food, water, litter, toys, bed etc. and let them out to roam when we can keep an eye on them because we just got new leather couches down there and they tried to scratch them up and we take them outside and they love the outside.
