How can I help my 7-month old puppy gain a little weight? 🐶

Bulma

Hi ladies,

My boyfriend and I have a 7-month old pit/jack russell mix, who we adopted from a shelter back in August. She is the sweetest little girl, incredibly smart, and so happy. Problem is, she’s rather skinny! She doesn’t look emaciated or anything, but I can slightly see her ribs and her spine, especially when she sits. She’s not malnourished and has no trouble eating; she’s just a very lean girl with a high metabolism.

We want to help her put on a little weight. She gets fed high-quality, grain-free puppy food twice a day. We’re bumping that up to three times a day now to see if that helps at all. She also gets high-quality treats in moderation and sometimes some plain cooked chicken, white rice, and scrambled eggs. She’ll get some safe fruits/veggies as treats sometimes as well. She’s going to the vet next week for another round of immunizations and we’re going to bring up her weight then, but I figured I’d ask for your opinions as well since I know there are a lot of dog lovers here.

I have a lot of experience with dogs, along with many other animals, but this is something I’ve never encountered. We love our little girl and we want to make sure she’s happy and healthy for her entire life. Any tips are appreciated Thank you 💕
