Do you believe intelligent life ever existed on Mars?

Not intelligent life. Possibly single celled organisms.

I guess another question would be what would you count as intelligent life? 
Even scientists can’t agree on whether it could be as basic as plant life capable of reproducing, only life capable of understanding that there are other life forms out there, or something in between, say a colony of ants with their own societal structure but no awareness of space technology.
I think before we get too concerned with finding intelligent life we need to just search for life, and another planet with habitats and ecosystems that can support life on a local and global scale. If we can find proof that other life exists then it makes the chances of even more life and potentially intelligent life out there somewhere.
I know people argue that if there was intelligent life they would have found us by now, but that overlooks so many things including them having no interest nor desire to search for other life and get involved in space travel, having the desire but like us do not yet have the technological advances, being billions of light years away and just too far away.

Answer

If there had been intelligent life there (or even unintelligent sentient creatures) there would be obvious signs that we would know about by now. At the most there may have been microscopic life, bacteria, single cell organisms, and potentially still could be but no definitely not intelligent life.
That’s not to say there’s none on other planets though, not in our solar system, and maybe not even in our galaxy but on other planets in habitable zones of other stars then it is perfectly possible, even more possible would be a planet of sentient but not necessarily intelligent life.

I don’t think it’s for us to concern ourselves with, at least not at the moment.
