Aspirin

Hello. My girlfriend is pregnant with our first child, and we’ve been told by the midwife that she has to start taking aspirin because her bmi is greater than 30. We’ve both looked into why she has to take it and we’re both very concerned as we don’t want to harm our first baby. Has anyone else been told this and what did you do?? Just would like some more info as this is our first. Thanks.
