In-laws changed their minds - what to tell wedding planner?

We're getting married next year and the in-laws said they would pay for it (they're the ones who wanted it; we wanted to elope). They said we'd pay out of out pocket for now and then they'd pay us back after the wedding. I wasn't too happy about this honestly.

So we hired a wedding planner and start planning. All of a sudden, they break the news that they changed their mind!!!!

It's really late for that and we paid the planner nonrefundable money. Plus, they're already put in a lot of work. So now our wedding plans are in shambles, we have to tell everyone that we're not having a wedding anymore, and we need to tell the planner too.

What the hell do we tell the planner?? I'm so pissed and mortified
