Hi I'm looking at getting the coil, I am wondering if you had a copper coil and if it had any effect on your periods?

I got the copper coil in, when it was inserted it was one of the most painful things I'd ever experienced. My uterus completely cramped up and it was so bad I was physically sick. My periods however have barely been painful at all, it's more clots and less free flowing blood however. I love having my coil in, only had it three months so far and I'm so happy with it.

Literally love my Paragard. If you go to a doctor that is experienced in inserting them, that will make a huge difference. Your general practitioner probably doesn’t do them every day. My periods sucked for the first 7 months or so, but the thing lasts for a decade. It’s been well worth it.

I have the copper coil and like some of the other women on here it was the most painful thing I’ve ever experienced. 
I tried to relax like the doctor and nurse were telling me but it hurt so fucking bad. I threw up in the toilet and then they had me lay down and eat some crackers with water. 
I threw that up into the trash can in the office I was in 😔 then had to chill there for almost an hour before i was able to drive myself home and crawl into bed with my heat pad. 
I completely regretted it when I was having it inserted but as the pain went away I got over it. 
But now my period causes me to throw up from back pain and cramps. I’m actually at Planned Parenthood right now to get it checked up on. I had it put in two months ago and I can still feel my strings i just feel like I’m dying every time I get my period now lol 😭

After the first couple months my period is about a day longer than it used to be and a little heavier. My cramps are about the same as before I got it (and I was not on anything before insertion). I think the minor changes are very worth it

i love mine. my periods went crazy for the first 8 months but they are pretty much back to normal length wise, just slightly heavier. i pass clots more now than actual dripping blood, sorry for the tmi. I do cramp a lot but I had bad cramping and heavy periods before paragard so I'm not really all that bothered by either. I just use a heating pad and ibuprofen. the one thing that DID change and I'm not sure why is that now I start cramping about 2 or 3 days before my actual period. that never happened prior to paragard, I would just get a severe migraine with light sensitivity right before. i still get the migraine, but the cramps come along too.

My experience with paraguard was good. The positives outweighed the negatives for sure! I didn't feel anything for insertion because they should be doing it when you are tapering off your period with her cervix still open. It should literally feel like a pinch. I spotted for 8 weeks after very very light and intermittent. After that my periods were regular but more heavy. Cramping was pretty rough for the first 6-8 months of periods. Then my periods were just heavier and shorter. I would get cramping maybe 1 out of every 3-4 periods. 
I had it removed year 3 to TTC, and conceived within 3 days of having it removed (got it removed during ovulation 😂) 
I'm now 31weeks pregnant and plan to use it for my future method as well considering it has no hormones and should not affect my breast milk. I love the paraguard even with it being a little bit more harsh for periods. Having no hormones and lasting 10 years is a huge win in my book.

I got mine a month and a half ago and although the insertion was uncomfortable, it just felt like a bad cramp and I was immediately back to normal afterwards. If you are getting a copper IUD, my gyno told me to eat a good meal an hour before, take a few pain killers,and it will help immensely. 😊 I love it now that I have it! it does effect your period, my first one was a lot heavier, but I actually feel like my cramps were less painful!

I got mine a month ago, so I don't know much yet...
The insertion was uncomfortable, and it hurt every time my uterus got poked. I had cramps for the rest of the day (like my uterus said "hello new friend, let me hug you REAL TIGHT" 😝) and then lighter cramps for a few other days.
Today is day two of the first period, until now it's not worse than before, I hope it stays this way *fingers crossed*
