Husband might not make it to the birth?

I'm due January 26, 2018 with our 2nd baby (3rd pregnancy, so he's our rainbow). My husband just recently got a job where he is working about 4 hours from where we are currently living. We are in the process of getting a house rented halfway between (so 2 hours each way). But it wont be ready until the beginning or middle of December. He's a welder and is currently working on pipelines, so we dont get to see him very much. We have decided that I would stay in my hometown (4 hrs from him) and wait to have the baby, starting at 38 weeks. I'm afraid that if I call him and tell him Im in labor that he wont be able to get here fast enough. There is a hospital though, near our rent house, but the reviews and hear-say about it are terrible. Id be better off giving birth in a ditch. Ive debated on asking my midwife if she'd induce me or atleast sweep my membranes at 38 weeks because of our circumstances. Then again, Im not sure how well that would go. Whats yalls stories and what did you do (or what would you do) in this situation. Advice is welcome!
