Do Membrane sweeps hurt?

Question

I'm 40w today and have the choice of getting a membrane sweep done next Tuesday or Thursday.
Haven't really heard much about them but I've heard that they can be uncomfortable during and after? How many of you had them done and what were your experiences? I know this isn't a birth story but everyone is this group would be the best to ask 💁🏼

I had it done with my first pregnancy and it was okay but you'll get some cramping afterwards so plan on someone driving you so you can relax driving home and then relax on your couch or bed afterwards.

I was my comfortable during either of mine. The first one at 39 weeks did nothing, the second at almost 41 weeks sent me into labor within 48 hrs.after the first one I felt nothing. But the second one I had consistent cramps for an hour after, then nothing the next day. The day after that I was in labor though.

I had 3-4 starting at like 38 weeks and they were all really uncomfortable. The first one took my breath away and so did the last one because she was really getting things going since I was overdue. I'm pretty sure the last one is what kick started my labor. So they don't hurt hurt like crying but I'm fine never doing it again lol

I had three starting at 40 weeks. The first two were fine didn’t hurt much. But the one I had the day before I went into labour at 40+5 was really quite painful lol

After birthing 7 babies I can say it REALLY depends on who is doing it.  I have had them that don't hurt at all and I have had them that I want to jump off the table.   Not once has it worked for me but by almost due date I am always ready to give it a shot.   I am down to weekly check ins with the midwife and I won't be having her do one as I would like to avoid labor if at all possible until 12/1
