I need ADVICE!
In the beginning of September I got a new job. I work 4, sometimes 5 days a week. My SO and I are trying to get an apartment together so I looked into getting a seasonal job. The plan was for my seasonal/temporary job to jump start my half of our apartment fund and my other job would be my “fun money”. I got hired at a small clothing store in the beginning of October, and from the beginning of October until now I’ve worked a total of 6 hours.
Saturday I went in to check this week’s schedule and noticed that I’m not scheduled at all until an 8 hour shift on Black Friday. I notified my boss at my other (main) job to let her know I’m free the rest of the week if she needs me to take on any more shifts, and since one employee just quit and my two bosses are going on vacation, more shifts will open up.
So I just got a call from one of my managers at the clothing store. Asks if I’ve confirmed my hours for this week and I said yeah I’m good to work Black Friday. She says oh no, you’re also scheduled 5:00pm-10:00pm Thanksgiving Day. I said oh okay, she said okay thanks, and hung up.
My issue is, I worked a seasonal job last year. I started working 8/9 hour shifts just about every single day from November 1 to March 20. I missed out on thanksgiving last year because my family usually starts their dinner at 3:30. Missing out this year just does not seem worth it to me. Doesn’t seem worth it to miss out on the one day a year my family gets together to celebrate, over a job that’s given me 19 hours total in the two months I’ve been working there. I feel like im stressing so much over a job that’s temporary, but I don’t wanna be that asshole who quits right before one of our peak days. I need opinions on what I should do.
