Is there a difference between “being IN love with someone” and “loving someone” ?

I asked my boyfriend and he said “there’s literally no difference”

I love my dad. but I'm not in love with my dad. haha. being in love is often more so on the romantic side while just loving someone is more so on the platonic side.

LOVING someone is an action, a conscious decision to treat a person with love.
you can feel not-in-love with someone but still choose to love them.

Loving someone could be anyone. Like how you love you mom. But you are not in love with your mom (I hope) that’s the best way I can explain it. It’s definitely hard to explain it but there is a difference
