Is it weird to text my boyfriends mom this?

It's my boyfriend's birthday next week and I got him an actual gift but I love baking so I wanna bake him something too. We've been together for 3 years but for some reason I don't really have a good idea of what kind of baked goods he likes. I know he loves peanut butter so I was thinking about cookies with Reese's pieces or something, but I'd rather know for sure what he likes rather than just wing it. I obviously can't ask him directly so I was thinking about texting his mom and asking, but is that weird? Bf and I are 18 and I've only gotten to know her recently in the past 8 months or so (we were long distance but aren't anymore). She's super sweet to me and we've texted before. I just feel weird for some reason and I don't want it to seem like I'm kissing up or something like "oh look how good of a girlfriend I am I'm surprising him and baking". Should I text her or no?
