There's this boy....

So I like this boy are families know each other and are good friends, we also go to the same school, but we are going to high school next year. The problem though is that he and I are going to different high schools. I also get really nervous around him and other people at school to the point I don't really talk much. So my question is should I try to initiate a friendship with him and see what happens or should I just get over it.
